Radiofrequency thermocoagulation for the treatment of refractory focal status epilepticus

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract This case study reports the first documented use of stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG)‐guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFTC) to treat refractory status epilepticus (RSE). A 33‐year‐old woman with drug‐resistant epilepsy and recurrent RSE underwent SEEG to define her epileptogenic zone.

Timing is everything: The effect of early‐life seizures on developing neuronal circuits subserving spatial memory

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Spatial memory, the aspect of memory involving encoding and retrieval of information regarding one's environment and spatial orientation, is a complex biological function incorporating multiple neuronal networks. Hippocampus‐dependent spatial memory is not innate and emerges during development in both humans and rodents.

Simultaneous tDCS‐rTMS stimulation to regulate the language network and improve language ability in Landau–Kleffner syndrome

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Landau–Kleffner syndrome (LKS) is a rare epileptic syndrome causing language regression. In this preliminary study, we investigated the effects of simultaneous transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on LKS patients and the underlying mechanism based on magnetoencephalography (MEG) network ...
