ABSTRACT Introduction/Objective Acute intracranial stenting during endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for ischemic stroke requires intraprocedural antiplatelet therapy (APT) to maintain patency. However, the hemorrhagic risk of combining APT with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) remains uncertain.

A PVDF Receiver for Ultrasound Monitoring of Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Therapy [PDF]
Focused ultrasound (FUS) shows great promise for use in the area of transcranial therapy. Currently dependent on MRI for monitoring, transcranial FUS would benefit from a real-time technique to monitor acoustic emissions during therapy. A polyvinylidene fluoride receiver with an active area of 17.8 mm (2) and a film thickness of 110 mum was constructed.

ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...

Focused Transcranial Ultrasound for Treatment of Neurodegenerative Dementia [PDF]
Preclinical studies support investigation of focused ultrasound for breakdown of cerebral pathologies in neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD).A focused transcranial Doppler device with probes (2 MHz, 520 mW/cm2) affixed bilaterally was used to target the hippocampus (AD) or substantia nigra (PD ...

Enhancing ultrasound transmission through an aberration layer exhibiting mismatched impedance with the surrounding medium possesses great implications in imaging and treatment. In this study, we show that a space‐coiling acoustic metamaterial with judiciously tailored structural profile can help improve impedance matching.
