HIV gene therapy using zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) and transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs)

open access: yes, 2014
Although a broad panel of antiviral drugs has become available for the therapy of HIV infection, treatment is not curative. HIV gene therapy using designer nucleases, such as zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) and Transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) that disrupt the CCR5 gene are a promising tool.
