Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation in healthy individuals, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease: a narrative review of safety, parameters, and efficacy

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Among the noninvasive electrical stimulation methods, transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) regulates the activity of various neural networks in the brain and autonomic nervous system and is expected to be applied clinically in many ...

Patient‐centered priorities in endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain: A mixed‐methods and thematic analysis of intake narratives

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Understanding what patients prioritize when seeking care for endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is crucial for delivering personalized, responsive care. However, patient‐defined goals remain poorly characterized across various life stages and disease phenotypes.

Differences and Commonalities of Electrical Stimulation Paradigms After Central Paralysis and Amputation

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Invasive and non‐invasive functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a well‐established method to partially restore function after paralysis and deliver sensory feedback after amputation. This work summarizes the current state‐of‐the‐art of FES for restoring function, supporting rehabilitation therapy, and assistive devices.

Simulating the Use of Discontinuous Patterned Hydrogel to Improve Inter‐Electrode Resistance on Electrode Arrays

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Stimulation spreads across electrode arrays using continuous hydrogel for the electrode‐skin interface, causing lower current densities over larger areas. A new approach was developed, modeled, and tested, utilizing discontinuous patterned hydrogel to improve inter‐electrode resistance on electrode arrays.

Neurophysiological Effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Spinal Cord Stimulation in Chronic Complete Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
TESCS‐ABT induced neurophysiological changes in individuals with chronic complete SCI, however these did not consistently translate into functional improvements. These findings highlight the role of residual supraspinal connectivity and inform future research to optimise this neurotechnology for SCI rehabilitation and identify likely responders ...

A Comparison Study Between Electrical Muscle Stimulation and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Treatment of Myofascial Pain Syndrome

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Transverse placement of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) electrodes across muscle fibers elicits localized contractions, facilitating greater active stretching (AS) of regions containing myofascial trigger points. This EMS + AS approach mimics passive stretching, with EMS providing resistance force similar to that typically applied by a therapist's ...
