Transducer characterization for Vibrothermography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Vibrothermography, also known as Sonic IR and Thermosonics, is an NDE technique for finding cracks and flaws based on vibration-induced frictional rubbing of unbonded surfaces.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Transversely Excited Multipass Photoacoustic Cell Using Electromechanical Film as Microphone

open access: yesSensors, 2010
A novel multipass photoacoustic cell with five stacked electromechanical films as a microphone has been constructed, tested and characterized. The photoacoustic cell is an open rectangular structure with two steel plates facing each other.

Tapered transmission line technique based graded matching layers for thickness mode piezoelectric transducers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Conventionally, in order to acoustically match thickness mode piezoelectric transducers to a low acoustic impedance load medium, multiple quarter wavelength (QW) matching layers are employed at the front face of the device.

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

High-Throughput Microelectrode Arrays for Precise Functional Localization of the Globus Pallidus Internus

open access: yesCyborg and Bionic Systems
The globus pallidus internus (GPi) was considered a common target for stimulation in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Located deep in the brain and of small size, pinpointing it during surgery is challenging.
