Electrochemical vibration sensor for low frequency detection: model, design and manufacture

open access: yesMicrosystems & Nanoengineering
Vibration sensors play a crucial role in resource exploration, structural health monitoring, and seismic activity detection. Conventional vibration sensors, primarily including electromagnetic, capacitive, piezoelectric, and fiber optic types, have been ...

High-Throughput Microelectrode Arrays for Precise Functional Localization of the Globus Pallidus Internus

open access: yesCyborg and Bionic Systems
The globus pallidus internus (GPi) was considered a common target for stimulation in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Located deep in the brain and of small size, pinpointing it during surgery is challenging.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Phototactic and Chemotactic Signal Transduction by Transmembrane Receptors and Transducers in Microorganisms

open access: yesSensors, 2010
Microorganisms show attractant and repellent responses to survive in the various environments in which they live. Those phototaxic (to light) and chemotaxic (to chemicals) responses are regulated by membrane-embedded receptors and transducers.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Transversely Excited Multipass Photoacoustic Cell Using Electromechanical Film as Microphone

open access: yesSensors, 2010
A novel multipass photoacoustic cell with five stacked electromechanical films as a microphone has been constructed, tested and characterized. The photoacoustic cell is an open rectangular structure with two steel plates facing each other.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Regulation of Synaptic Plasticity and Adaptive Convergence Under Rhythmic Stimulation of an In Vitro Hippocampal Neuronal Network of Cultured Cells

open access: yesBiosensors
Synaptic plasticity constitutes a fundamental mechanism of neural systems. Rhythmic activities (e.g., θ and γ oscillations) play a critical role in modulating network plasticity efficiency in biological neural systems.
