A modular FPGA-based ultrasonic array system for applications including non-destructive testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper reports work aimed at the development of an ultrasonic imaging system comprising modular, reprogrammable building blocks, or tiles, which can be customised for multiple applications, including and within non-destructive testing (NDT), by the ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Reversible pushdown transducers

open access: yesInformation and Computation, 2018
Deterministic pushdown transducers are studied with respect to their ability to compute reversible transductions, that is, to transform inputs into outputs in a reversible way. This means that the transducers are also backward deterministic and thus are able to uniquely step the computation back and forth.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Carbon Fiber Ultramicrodic Electrode Electrodeposited with Over-Oxidized Polypyrrole for Amperometric Detection of Vesicular Exocytosis from Pheochromocytoma Cell

open access: yesSensors, 2015
Vesicular exocytosis is ubiquitous, but it is difficult to detect within the cells’ communication mechanism. For this purpose, a 2 µm ultramicrodic carbon fiber electrode was fabricated in this work based on electrodeposition with over-oxidized ...

Analysis and design of Piezoelectric sonar transducers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
PhDIn this study techniques are developed for the analysis and design of piezoelectric sonar transducers based on equivalent circuit representations. For the purposes of analysis, equivalent circuits capable of accurately representing every element ...

A thermal insulation method for a piezoelectric transducer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This study deals with the sources of signal distortion of a piezoelectric transducer heated by measured gas flow. These signal distortions originate from both unloading of preload on a piezocrystal because of expansion of a diaphragm in the test ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Neuronal activity in the ventral tegmental area during goal-directed navigation recorded by low-curvature microelectrode arrays

open access: yesMicrosystems & Nanoengineering
Navigating toward destinations with rewards is a common behavior among animals. The ventral tegmental area (VTA) has been shown to be responsible for reward coding and reward cue learning, and its response to other variables, such as kinematics, has also

Theoretical modelling of frequency dependent elastic loss in composite piezoelectric transducers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The large number of degrees of freedom in the design of piezoelectric transducers requires a theoretical model that is computationally efficient so that a large number of iterations can be performed in the design optimisation.
