Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Approximate State–Space and Transfer Function Models for 2×2 Linear Hyperbolic Systems with Collocated Boundary Inputs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2020
Two approximate representations are proposed for distributed parameter systems described by two linear hyperbolic PDEs with two time- and space-dependent state variables and two collocated boundary inputs.

A numerical method to solve the Boltzmann equation for a spin valve

open access: yes, 2007
We present a numerical algorithm to solve the Boltzmann equation for the electron distribution function in magnetic multilayer heterostructures with non-collinear magnetizations.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Efficient Multi-Material Volume Rendering for Realistic Visualization with Complex Transfer Functions

open access: yesJournal of Imaging
Physically based realistic direct volume rendering (DVR) is a critical area of research in scientific data visualization. The prevailing realistic DVR methods are primarily rooted in outdated theories of participating media rendering and often lack ...

Preparation and analysis of testate amoebae in peatland palaeoenvironmental studies [PDF]

open access: yesMires and Peat, 2010
The use of testate amoebae in studies of peatland hydrology and palaeohydrology has been increasing, and considerable efforts have been made over the past decade to standardise techniques as much as possible.

Realizability and Internal Model Control on Networks

open access: yes, 2019
It is proved that network realizability of controllers can be enforced without conservatism using convex constraints on the closed loop transfer function.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
