Transition boiling heat transfer from a horizontal surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
An experiment, utilising a condensing fluid as the heat source, was performed to determine the heat flux vs. temperature difference curve for transition pool boiling from a horisontal surface.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Method of measuring modulation transfer function using metal wire in computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The current scanning parameters for computed tomography (CT) such as multi-detector row CT are becoming more complicated, and there are many cases in which the selected parameters directly affect image quality.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Benefit Transfer as Preference Calibration [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes and illustrates the use of a new approach to benefit transfer for the non-market valuation of environmental resources. It treats transfer as an identification problem that requires assessing whether available benefit estimates permit ...

Development of an In-Cylinder Heat Transfer Correlation for Reciprocating Compressors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The gas superheating that takes place throughout the suction system and inside the cylinder of reciprocating compressors adversely affects their overall efficiency.

Impact of Phase Angle Jump on a Doubly Fed Induction Generator under Low-Voltage Ride-Through Based on Transfer Function Decomposition

open access: yesEnergies
During the fault period, a phase angle jump may occur at the stator or the point of common coupling, which will deteriorate the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) characteristics of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The existing LVRT studies focus on

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Benefit Transfer: Choice Experiment Results [PDF]

open access: yes
Benefit transfer entails using estimates of non-market values derived at one site as approximations to benefits at other sites. The method finds favour because it can be applied quickly and cheaply, however the validity of benefit transfer is frequently ...
