A Clustering Based Transfer Function for Volume Rendering Using Gray-Gradient Mode Histogram

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Volume rendering is an emerging technique widely used in the medical field to visualize human organs using tomography image slices. In volume rendering, sliced medical images are transformed into attributes, such as color and opacity through transfer ...

Analysis of Chromatography by Means of Transfer Functions

open access: yesKAGAKU KOGAKU RONBUNSHU, 1983
The transfer-function method of Ostergaard and Michelson is extended to obtain the gel-chromatographic parameters, namely, the intraparticle diffusion coefficient, the distribution coefficient, and the longitudinal diffusivity. The accuracy is comparable with that of the method of moments.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Mechanism and behavior of nucleate boiling heat transfer to the alkalai liquid metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
A model of boiling heat transfer to the alkali liquid metals is postulated from an examination of the events and phases of the nucleate boiling cycle. The model includes the important effect of microlayer evaporation which causes a wave of temperature ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

The acute effect of maximal sprint exercise on dynamic cerebral autoregulation in healthy young adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
This study investigated the acute effect of maximal sprint exercise on dynamic cerebral autoregulation (dCA). Twenty‐one healthy young adults (22.9 ± 3.0 years) completed a single experimental visit where dCA was assessed at rest and 25 min following an ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Measurements of the modulation transfer function of image displays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Measurements of the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of image displays are often required for objective image quality assessments, but are difficult to carry out due to the need for specialized apparatus.

Analysis of the transfer function for layered piezoelectric ultrasonic sensors

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
We model theoretically the voltage response to an acoustic pulse of a multilayer system forming a low noise capacitive sensor including a Polyvinylidene Fluoride piezoelectric film.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
