Effects of 5-fluorocytidine on mammalian transfer RNA and transfer RNA methyltransferases

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1979
Abstract Effects of 5-fluorocytidine on mouse liver tRNA and mouse liver tRNA methyltransferases were investigated. tRNA isolated from drug-treated tissue was shown to contain 5-fluorocytidine and 5 fluorouridine. The amounts of all 5-substituted pyrimidine nucleosides such as 5-methylcytidine, 5-methyluridine, pseudouridine and 5,6-dihydrouridine ...

Transfer RNA in RNA Tumor Viruses

1977
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews that the presence of the majority of the tRNAs inside an RNA tumor virus remains an enigma. The finding that specific tRNA molecules can serve as primers for DNA synthesis is of fundamental importance in the field of molecular biology.

Single Crystals of Transfer RNA from Formylmethionine and Phenylalanine Transfer RNA's

Science, 1968
Reproducible conditions have been developed for crystallization of transfer RNA. The conditions may be applicable to many pure transfer RNA species since identical procedures (except for initial transfer RNA concentration) yielded good crystals from both yeast and Escherichia coli transfer RNA.

Biosynthesis of mammalian transfer RNA. Evidence for regulation by deacylated transfer RNA

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1976
The rate of tRNA synthesis in cultured Friend leukemia cells has been examined as a function of the variation in polyribosome structure produced by treatment with a variety of inhibitors of protein synthesis. The results indicate, in contrast to the conclusions of Bölcsföldi (Bölcsföldi, G. (1974) Exp.

Structural Studies on Transfer RNA: Crystallization of Formylmethionine and Leucine Transfer RNA's

Science, 1969
Improved solvent systems were used to crystallize two different transfer RNA species. These crystals show increased mechanical and thermal stability over crystals obtained previously from a similar system. They have sufficient stability and crystalline order to be used in x-ray crystallographic studies.

Transfer RNA nucleotidyltransferase

1990
Publisher Summary All tRNA molecules contain, at the 3′ terminus, the identical-CCA sequence that is required for their acceptor and transfer functions. In prokaryotic cells, no discrete pattern has emerged. In laboratory strains of Escherichia coli , all tRNA genes sequenced encode the -CCA sequence, and mutant strains devoid of tRNA ...

Transfer RNA identity.

The FASEB Journal, 1993
Since its theoretical inception, the tRNA molecule has been identified and many of its functions have been described in terms of its structure. However, the molecular basis for the aminoacylation specificity of tRNA has remained largely unsolved until recently, when substantial progress has disclosed fundamental aspects of this process.

Transfer-RNA: The early adaptor

Naturwissenschaften, 1981
Evolutionary history of tRNA is studied by comparative sequence analysis of two specified tRNA's at various phylogenetic levels and of tRNA families within four different species. Criteria are developed that allow 1) to distinguish between convergent and divergent evolution, 2) to determine the mechanism of divergence and 3) to estimate the degree of ...

Aminoacy1 Transfer RNA Formation. VI. Binding of Cations to Transfer RNA and Its Role in Aminoacy1 Transfer RNA Formation1

The Journal of Biochemistry, 1976
The role of cations (polyamines and Mg2+) in isoleucyl-tRNA formation catalyzed by purified isolecuyl-tRNA synthetase [EC 6.1.1.5] from Escherichia coli was studied. It was found that spermine, spermidine, and Mg2+ bind to tRNA and that when bound to these cations, tRNA acts as substrate of aminoacylation without requiring further cations.

Nucleotide Sequence and Function of Transfer RNA and Precursor Transfer RNA

1973
At present, we have to consider the functional interactions of the tRNA molecule without knowing its three-dimensional structure. Comparison of tRNA sequences has shown that they have a common hydrogen-bonded structure defined by the cloverleaf arrangement, and in addition they have certain common sequences or correlated sequences which may also be ...
