Abstract Transformation optics applies ideas from Einstein’s general theory of relativity to optical and electrical engineering with the aim of designing devices that can do the (almost) impossible: invisibility cloaking, perfect imaging, levitation, and the creation of analogues of the event horizon.

Adaption of optical Fresnel transform to optical Wigner transform
Physica Scripta, 2010Summary: Enlightened by the algorithmic isomorphism between the rotation of the Wigner distribution function (WDF) and the \(\alpha \)th fractional Fourier transform, we show that the optical Fresnel transform performed on the input through an \(ABCD\) system makes the output naturally adapting to the associated Wigner transform, i.e.

Metasurface transformation optics
Journal of Optics, 2014Transformation optics has been recently proposed as a powerful method to manipulate electromagnetic fields by using anisotropic inhomogeneous volumetric media. This method can be extended to design anisotropic modulated metasurfaces (MTSs) able to control the propagation path of surface waves.

Non-Euclidean transformations have been recently proposed to produce a link between 3-D homogeneous surfaces and 2-D dielectric lenses. Therefore, the propagation in a geometrical surface has the same response of an equivalent refractive index ...

Optical Substitution Transforms
Journal of Modern Optics, 1989Abstract A new family of representations for one-dimensional functions or signals, obtained by performing a variable substitution cascaded with a Fourier transform mainly oriented to spectrum compression, is proposed. Some optical ways of performing such a transform are suggested.

We show how transformation optics can enhance optical gradient forces between two optical waveguides by several orders of magnitude. The technique is based on a coordinate transformation that alters the perceived distance between the waveguides. This transformation can be implemented using single-negative metamaterial thin films.

We give fiber or planar lightwave circuit (PLC) architectures to implement the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the discrete Hartley transform (DHT) directly in the optical domain. In both cases, we present a recursive approach for the decimation-in-frequency algorithm, considering parallel and serial input configurations.

This paper presents an approach for the analysis of surface-wave (SW) propagation on modulated surface impedance described through a 2-D coordinate transformation. This approach is based on an extension of geometrical optics (GO) description for plane waves in graded index materials to SWs supported by modulated, impenetrable isotropic or anisotropic ...
