Abstract An optical technique for performing general types of map transformations is introduced. Using a coherent system, the object distribution is multiplied by a phase function so that its frequency spectrum constitutes the transformation wanted. Also shown is how imaging systems can be made space variant.

Transformation-optical cavities
2010It is generally admitted that it is impossible to store light in a volume with subwavelength dimensions due to the wavelike nature of light. In this contribution, we design optical cavities within the framework of transformation optics. We overcome the fundamental diffraction limit and demonstrate the existence of cavities with subwavelength eigenmodes.
