A Comparative Study of Advanced Transformer Learning Frameworks for Water Potability Analysis Using Physicochemical Parameters

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Keeping drinking water safe is a critical aspect of protecting public health. Traditional laboratory-based methods for evaluating water potability are often time-consuming, costly, and labour-intensive.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Relaxed Attention for Transformer Models

open access: yes, 2022
The powerful modeling capabilities of all-attention-based transformer architectures often cause overfitting and - for natural language processing tasks - lead to an implicitly learned internal language model in the autoregressive transformer decoder ...

On the Minimum Dataset Requirements for Fine-Tuning an Object Detector for Arable Crop Plant Counting: A Case Study on Maize Seedlings

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Object detection is essential for precision agriculture applications like automated plant counting, but the minimum dataset requirements for effective model deployment remain poorly understood for arable crop seedling detection on orthomosaics.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Deconstructing a Minimalist Transformer Architecture for Univariate Time Series Forecasting

open access: yesAlgorithms
This paper provides a detailed breakdown of a minimalist, fundamental Transformer-based architecture for forecasting univariate time series. It describes each processing step in detail, from input embedding and positional encoding to self-attention ...

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Beyond Cross-Entropy: Discounted Least Information Theory of Entropy (DLITE) Loss and the Impact of Loss Functions on AI-Driven Named Entity Recognition

open access: yesInformation
Loss functions play a significant role in shaping model behavior in machine learning, yet their design implications remain underexplored in natural language processing tasks such as Named Entity Recognition (NER).

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.
