Use of a Deformation Coefficient for Transformer Winding Diagnostics
International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2008This paper presents a novel method for deformation diagnostics of transformer windings using terminal measurements. The shortcomings of existing practices in locating deformation and determining its extent are discussed. The logical steps involved in devising the new method are elaborated.

Transformer winding diagnostics using deformation coefficient
2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2008This work presents the use of terminal capacitance measurements to detect deformations in transformer windings. The lumped parameter representation of windings is considered. The deformation coefficient (DC) derived from the measurements is used to detect winding deformations. The extent and location of deformation can also be determined by this method.

Deformation analysis of transformer winding by structure parameter
Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004Frequency Response Analysis can be used to detect the transformer winding deformation. Its reliability and standard are studied. A simulation model of transformer winding is developed. The transformer winding is equivalent to a network circuit, and electrical components in the circuit can describe distributed elements of the winding.

The proposed method involves performing frequency response analysis on the model and capturing its high frequency behaviour through terminal measurement.

A novel approach for on-line deformation diagnostics of transformer windings
IEEE PES General Meeting, 2010This paper discusses an elegantly simple on-line approach for deformation diagnostics of transformer winding. The Current Deviation Coefficient (CDC) derived from terminal current measurements at a selected high frequency (HF) is found to be an effective indicator for locating deformed section of the winding.
