A multi‐network approach to assess how physical templates shape stream fish ecological strategies

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April–June 2026.
This multi‐network framework identifies a continuous topological gradient of fish ecological strategies—comprising Dispersal Gateways, Integrated Connectors, and Mass Effect Dominated species—within the dendritic river template. The functional role of stream reaches is scale‐sensitive, particularly at headwater extremes where sites operate as critical ...

Patch and Landscape Predictors of Mammal Diversity and Their Trait‐Relationships in the Largest Atlantic Forest Island in Brazil

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Urbanization and habitat fragmentation reshape mammal communities on Santa Catarina Island, one of the largest Atlantic Forest islands in Brazil. Using camera traps across protected forest patches, we show that species richness declines with urban and unvegetated matrices, while abundance increases in smaller and more isolated fragments dominated by ...

The Miners of South America: Impacts of Climate Change on the Distribution of Geositta Miners Along Elevational Gradients

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
We modeled the current and future distributions of seven Geositta species along elevational gradients in South America under two climate change scenarios. Our results show that most species are projected to lose suitable habitats, particularly under the high‐emission scenario, with distinct responses between lowland and highland taxa.

School Commuting in Lisbon: Exploratory Research on Active and Public Transportation Choices

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
In the past decades, there has been a significant growth in awareness related to the impacts of school commuting in metropolitan areas. The use of public transport and the promotion of active transportation choices among educational communities are key issues for the development of sustainable and efficient cities. This paper explores multiple factors,

Across the edge: Spatial segregation drives community structure in tri‐trophic multilayer networks at a forest–grassland edge

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 11, Page 2205-2219, November 2025.
This study reveals how forest–grassland edges act as ecological barriers that shape tri‐trophic interaction networks. Using multilayer network theory, it uncovers how species influence and biodiversity patterns emerge across spatial layers, offering novel insights into edge‐driven community assembly and conservation in fire‐prone mosaics.
