Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

THERM: A three-dimensional transient heat conduction computer program [PDF]
THERM is a three-dimensional finite-element computer program for solving transient heat conduction problems. This report presents the techniques used to develop THERM. The theory described consists of a governing equation, boundary conditions, and an equivalent variational principle.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Multi-Threaded Circuit Simulation using OpenMP
Circuit-level simulation is a computationally intensive problem that has proven to be particularly difficult to parallelize. While device evaluation can be performed in parallel in conventional circuit simulators, the execution overhead is high.

The KIVA-II Computer Program for Transient Multidimensional Chemically Reactive Flows with Sprays [PDF]
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Since its public release in 1985, the K1VA computer program has been used for the time dependent analysis of chemically reacting flows with sprays in two and three space dimensions. This paper describes some of the improvements to the original version that have been made since that time.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
