Detecting transients of unknown length

2005 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2005
For detection of a permanent and precisely-modeled change in distribution of iid (independent and identically distributed) observations, Page's test is optimal. When employed to detect a transient change in distribution, Page's test is easy to implement and, since it is a GLRT, it provides reliable performance.

Detectability of Transient and Sinusoidal Otoacoustic Emissions

Ear and Hearing, 1992
An analysis is presented of the detectability of the two types of otoacoustic emissions being considered for use in clinical tests of hearing. It is estimated that, for equal emission levels and equal probability of error, measurement of distortion-product emissions can be made at least 30 times faster than transient-evoked emissions using current ...

Quickest Detection Procedures and Transient Signal Detection

1990
Abstract : This dissertation focuses on sequential decision procedures to detect changes in the statistical model of an observed random process when these changes can occur at unknown times. In the disorder problem, the samples are drawn according to one statistical model until some unknown time after which all the samples correspond to a second model.

Detection and modeling of fast attack transients

2001
Attack transients or simply attacks, are zones of short duration and fast variation of the sound signal short-time spectrum such as at the attack of percussion instruments. There are many motivations for attack detection and modeling; improving general analysis techniques is one of them.

Detecting a transient needle in a haystack

Science, 2015
Signal Processing Discriminating signals within a noisy environment is an issue crucial to many disciplines, from observational astronomy to secure communication and imaging. If the signal is periodic, then averaging over many measurements can help enhance the signal-to-noise ratio.

Transient Detection by Delta Modulation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1966
Delta modulation is a method of single-bit-per-sample analog-to-digital conversion utilizing feedback around a hard limiter. The digital patterns produced by a delta modulator can be used for transient detection. The results of investigating the value of delta modulation for transient detection are discussed.

Techniques for Detecting and Recording Transients

1974 IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Symposium Record, 1974
A totally automated transient detection and data reduction capability has been developed. The principal element in this data collection system is a Transient Analyzer which operates with analog-digital techniques. Combining this analyzer with a computer and software program enables 44 parameters to be monitored/reviewed in real time at a sample rate of
