Transient multi-soliton dynamics between adjacent-order harmonic mode-locking states in a hybrid mode-locked fiber laser

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
The buildup dynamics from noise-seeded relaxation oscillation to harmonic mode-locking (HML) solitons generation have been well investigated in ultrafast fiber lasers.

Transient power dynamics in nematic electroconvection

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2023
We have observed the transient dynamics in nematic electroconvection during a sudden change in the driving voltage. The steady state dynamics of nematic electroconvection during a constant driving voltage are well characterized examples of spatiotemporal chaos, and thus are useful for the study of chaotic transients.

Transient spatio-temporal dynamics of a diffusive plant–herbivore system with Neumann boundary conditions

open access: yesJournal of Biological Dynamics, 2016
In many existing predator–prey or plant–herbivore models, the numerical response is assumed to be proportional to the functional response. In this paper, without such an assumption, we consider a diffusive plant–herbivore system with Neumann boundary ...

Transient Anomalous Diffusion in Run-and-Tumble Dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
We study the stochastic dynamics of a particle with two distinct motility states. Each one is characterized by two parameters: one represents the average speed and the other represents the persistence quantifying the tendency to maintain the current ...

Magnetoconvection transient dynamics by numerical simulation [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal E, 2017
We investigate the transient and stationary buoyant motion of the Rayleigh-Bénard instability when the fluid layer is subjected to a vertical, steady magnetic field. For Rayleigh number, Ra, in the range 103-106, and Hartmann number, Ha, between 0 and 100, we performed three-dimensional direct numerical simulations.

Non-back-drivable clutch based self-locking mechanism of prosthetic joint to improve manipulation stability

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
During activities of daily living (ADLs), the wrist is mainly engaged in positioning and directing the hand. Researches have demonstrated that restoring wrist mobility can significantly enhance the manipulation ability, reduce body distortion caused by ...

Short-term memory by transient oscillatory dynamics in recurrent neural networks

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
Despite the significance of short-term memory in cognitive function, the process of encoding and sustaining the input information in neural activity dynamics remains elusive. Herein, we unveiled the significance of transient neural dynamics to short-term

Transient Thermal Energy Harvesting at a Single Temperature Using Nonlinearity

open access: yesEntropy
The authors present an in-depth theoretical study of two nonlinear circuits capable of transient thermal energy harvesting at one temperature. The first circuit has a storage capacitor and diode connected in series.

Transients, Metastability, and Neuronal Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesNeuroImage, 1997
This paper is about neuronal dynamics and how their special complexity can be understood in terms of nonlinear dynamics. There are many aspects of neuronal interactions and connectivity that engender the complexity of brain dynamics. In this paper we consider (i) the nature of this complexity and (ii) how it depends on connections between neuronal ...

Transient inconsistency between population density and fisheries yields without bycatch species extinction

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
Recent studies have demonstrated the great advantages of marine reserves in solving bycatch problems by maintaining the persistence (i.e., avoid extinction) of endangered species without sacrificing the fisheries yields of target species.
