Transient radiation from axially symmetric sources

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
A method is presented for the efficient calculation of radiated acoustic fields from a radially symmetric source in a rigid baffle excited by an arbitrary time excitation. The technique is a modal analysis based on the series expansion of the source velocity excitation in terms of either of two basis functions.

Solar VLBI of Compact Transient Sources

Solar Physics, 1986
Very Long Baseline Interferometry offers the only technique for resolving the transient compact sources which, according to an increasing weight of observational and theoretical evidence, occur during solar flares. In this paper we discuss the problems of applying VLBI to observing the Sun, the results obtained so far and how the technique may be ...

Shutter transients during solid-source epitaxy

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B: Microelectronics and Nanometer Structures Processing, Measurement, and Phenomena, 2005
Effusion cells are commonly used in solid-source molecular beam epitaxy for evaporation of the source materials. A prominent inaccuracy during effusion cell operation is strong flux transients after shutter opening. We have studied the temperature and time dependent beam fluxes of effusion cells filled with the group III elements indium, aluminum, and ...

On the Radiation from Transient Light Sources

Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section A, 1949
A theoretical treatment is given of the problem of analysing the radiation from transient light sources in the form of clouds of incandescent particles. Recently a method of correlating this radiation with various physical parameters has been suggested by E. F. Caldin.

Parametric acoustic sources of transient signals

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979
A theoretical treatment is formulated for transient, or broadband, parametric acoustic sources, i.e., parametric sources using an arbitrarily modulated primary carrier signal. This treatment makes use of previously calculated characteristics for steady-state, or narrow-band, parametric sources. The theory does not include saturation effects.

Switching Transients Using Injection of Sources

2021
This chapter presents another methodology for the study of transient phenomena caused by the opening or closing of one or more switches, in circuits that are or are not operating in a steady-state, before switching. It is a technique applicable, preferably, to linear circuits and invariant over time, and whose principle is to simulate the closing of a ...

Response of plates to transient sources

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1974
A method of treating the response of an infinite plate to a transient load, under plane strain conditions, is proposed. The final solution is given in the form of an infinite series of integrals. Each term of the series is readily evaluated by Cagniard's technique and only a finite number of terms are required to determine the state of stresses for any

The Burst and Transient Source Experiment

Space Programs and Technologies Conference and Exhibit, 1993
The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) is one of four experiments 011 the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (GRO), which was launclied into a 450-!a orbit on April 5, 1991. BATSE was designed primarily for the study of gamma-ray bursts, unexplained flashes of celestial g a m m a r ys tliat last from a fraction of a second to over 100 secouds and

Transient Sources in Elliptical Galaxies

2009
A key observational result that can constrain the nature of Low-Mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) is their time variability. From theory it has been suggested that transient behavior is expected from luminous (LX>10^37 erg/s) LMXBs if these sources have evolved from native X-ray binaries in the stellar field, whereas GC-LMXBs are only expected to display ...
