Fast-decoupled transient stability

Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 1989
Presents an improved method for computing transient stability using a fast-decoupled formulation of the transient energy function. The new formulation offers significant savings in computer time as compared to the existing Newton-Raphson formulation.

Transient statistics in stabilizing periodic orbits

Physical Review E, 1995
The statistics of chaotic and periodic transient time intervals preceding the stabilization of a given periodic orbit have been experimentally studied in a ${\mathrm{CO}}_{2}$ laser with modulated losses, subjected to a small subharmonic perturbation.

Transient stability control

1999
In this chapter the reader has been introduced to the basic theory of electromechanical transients in power systems. The relative generator rotor motion has been described by the swing equation. The problem of transient stability has been explained on the basis of the well known but, especially from the tutorial point of view, still valuable equal-area

Controlling transient stability through line switching

2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe), 2012
Smart transmission systems have introduced new possibilities of using topology control process for increasing power system dynamic security. Nowadays, in short term analysis, transmission topology is often treated as static and network reconfiguration is performed only for optimizing power flows and market performance.

Transient stability criteria

1975 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control including the 14th Symposium on Adaptive Processes, 1975
A survey of the criteria of stability used in the power system transient stability problem is made. The status of progress in the use of these methods is given, and the areas of difficulty are outlined.

A parallel transient stability limit search method for online transient stability assessment

2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005
In this paper, a modified signal energy method called the envelope method will first be proposed to estimate the transient stability limit, and then a parallel envelope method is developed to speed up the limit search for online applications. A new weighting limit estimation formula is used for improving the estimation accuracy and minimizing of the ...

Transient stability of large aluminum stabilized superconductors

IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1999
Very large current composite superconductors have been considered and adopted to use in SMES coils and fusion applications, such as the Large Helical Device (LHD). These superconductors have large cross-sectional area of high purity aluminum stabilizer to improve their stability and to enhance the overall current density.

Online Transient Stability Assessment

2014
With the advent of deregulation in the power industry and a lack of transmission investment, today’s power systems are operated much closer to their limits. Stressed system conditions mean that operators are faced with scenarios that never occurred in the past.

Power System Transient Stability Assessment Based on Critical Cutset Transient Stability Available Capacity

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Aiming at the disadvantages of converting traditional transient stability margin into power system control measures, this paper proposes a new transient stability margin characterization method based on critical cutset transient stability available capacity (TATC).

A Unified Scheme for Power System Transient Stability Simulation and Transient Stability Assessment

2019 IEEE 8th International Conference on Advanced Power System Automation and Protection (APAP), 2019
Transient stability assessment (TSA) is critical for power system stability analysis and control. Among all efforts to achieve TSA, the transient stability simulation(TSS) plays a fundamental role. In this paper, a unified scheme is proposed for TSS and TSA of numerous power system transient scenarios. The scheme mainly consists of two parts, which are
