Transient stability of large aluminum stabilized superconductors

IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1999
Very large current composite superconductors have been considered and adopted to use in SMES coils and fusion applications, such as the Large Helical Device (LHD). These superconductors have large cross-sectional area of high purity aluminum stabilizer to improve their stability and to enhance the overall current density.

Determination of the transient stability boundary

IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004., 2005
This work presents an efficient method to determine the transient stability boundary. In terms of the power system variables, the required boundary is nonlinear. The method adopted in This work is to transform the original power system variables into a higher dimensional feature space using a nonlinear transformation.

Transient stability of superconducting alternators

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1975
A simulation study is performed for the purpose of determining the transient stability characteristics of superconducting alternators. This simulation is compared with an equal area criterion method. It is found that superconducting machines have good transient stability characteristics, that field forcing is not particularly helpful nor necessary.

Fast Transient Stability Solutions

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1972
Techniques are described for improving the speed of large transient stability studies without sacrificing accuracy. A fast iterative method for solving the algebraic network equations, including the effect of generator saliency, is explained. A new technique for solving the differential equations with the implicit trapezoidal rule of integration is ...

Digital computation of transient stability [PDF]

open access: possibleElectrical Engineering, 1957
A DIGITAL METHOD has been developed for solving the transient stability equations of an electric system in which induction motor performance is critical. All calculations are made using a stored program computer with 2,000 words of storage. Experience which includes 100 sets of step-by-step calculations for three electric systems indicates that the ...

Transient stability and emergency control

Science in China Series E: Technological Sciences, 2008
Comparability of emergency control strategies with different instability modes is the key issue to decide which control strategy to be implemented. This paper considers that the essential factor causing instability should be used to form a unified standard to assess the effectiveness of control strategies with different instability modes.

Transients, Stability and Oscillations

2018
This chapter goes beyond the steady-state behaviour of fast skeletal muscle to look at time-dependent behaviour in all forms associated with full Ca2+-activation. A step perturbation in length, ligand concentration or temperature generates transient behaviour in tension and other observables before reaching a new steady-state, and these transient ...

Transient stability of LHC strands

IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1999
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) machine will operate at 1.9 K in order to achieve the high bending fields required in the dipole magnets. The cable and coil matrix is designed to be 'porous' in order to allow the He II coolant to penetrate within the cable for stability enhancement.

Transient Dynamics on the Edge of Stability

2015
Here we propose, on the basis of the winnerless competition (WLC) principle, which induces robust transient dynamics in open complex networks, and whose geometrical image in phase space is a heteroclinic sequence, to study the behavior of complex multiagent systems such as brain or ecological food networks that present transient dynamics in a network ...

Transient stability enhancement with UPFC

IET-UK International Conference on Information and Communication Technology in Electrical Sciences (ICTES 2007), 2007
In this paper, the most versatile FACTS device UPFC is modelled and implemented in the SMIB (single machine infinite bus) system and standard 9 - bus system (Anderson and Fouad, 1977). The performances of these systems are simulated by using MATLAB. It has been found that the critical clearing time of the system has increased after including the UPFC ...
