The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Ductile–Brittle Transition Mechanism and Dilute Solution Softening Effect of Body-Centered Cubic Metals

open access: yes
Body-centered cubic (BCC) metals, extensively utilized in low-alloy high-strength steels and heat-resistant alloys, exhibit a pronounced ductile–brittle transition (DBT) at cryogenic temperatures, marked by a well-defined yet narrow ductile&ndash ...

Chemical availability in soils and sediments interpreted by coupled transport–reaction models of DGT (Diffusive Gradients in Thin-films) fluxes: Roles of dissolved ligands and finite sorption capacity

open access: yesGeoderma
The passive sampler DGT (Diffusive Gradients in Thin-films) can assess the availability of various trace elements and pollutants—including transition metals (e.g. Hg, Ni, Cu, Cd, Zn or Pb), platinum group elements, organic contaminants (e.g. antibiotics,

Effectiveness of rTMS on Working Memory and Inhibitory Impairments in Patients With Post‐Stroke Executive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing effective treatments for post‐stroke executive impairment (PSEI), among which repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown great potential. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of high‐frequency rTMS on working memory (WM) and response ...

Synthesis of guanidine from ammonium thiocyanate in solid state

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2004
Guanidine is an important substance for modern living beings as well as for the prebiotic chemistry. We studied the reaction between ammonium and thiocyanate species in solid state with different substances (river sand, kaolin, transition metals, salts ...

Preparation Process and Performance Analysis of Oxygen-containing Coating on Transition Metal

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
As candidate materials for the collector in thermionic energy converters (TECs), reducing the surface work function of transition metals can lower the barrier index between TEC electrodes, thereby improving their thermoelectric conversion efficiency and ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.
