Transition Probability and Dichotic Listening

Nature, 1973
BLOOMFIELD1 has rejected the hypothesis that in a dichotic listening situation the selection of the attended message by the subject is based only on spatial cues, and argued that the transition probabilities between words also affects their selection. Physical cues rather than spatial ones should have been referred to because it has been demonstrated ...

The Estimation of Nonstationary Transition Probabilities

Management Science, 1973
The estimation of an underlying Markov process of constant transition probabilities which explains aggregated market share movements over time has received much attention from theorists and applied researchers. Summaries of the work to date are given in [Dent, Warren T., Richard Ballintine. 1971.

Transition probabilities in neutral barium

Physical Review A, 1987
We present emission measurements on a hollow-cathode discharge containing barium that were taken with the aid of a Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS). We have determined the branching fractions for ten upper levels of the neutral barium atom. In the case of the resonance level 6s6p ${}^{1}$P\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}${}_{1}$, we had to ...

A NOTE ON TRANSITION PROBABILITY ESTIMATION

Australian Journal of Statistics, 1972
AbstractThe usual regression model for the estimation of Markovian transition probabilities is examined under the assumption that the disturbance terms are normally distributed. It is found that for a certain variance‐covariance structure, the regular quadratic programming estimates are the same as the maximum likelihood estimates when non‐negativity ...

Markov transition probabilities. I

Zeitschrift für Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und Verwandte Gebiete, 1967
A continuous-parameter Markov process on a general state space has transition function P t (x,E). The theory of regenerative phenomena is applied to the question: what functions of t can arise in this way? Particular attention is paid to processes of purely discontinuous type, to which are extended known results for ...

The Transition Probability for States of *‐Algebras

Annalen der Physik, 1985
AbstractWe explain how to define, in consistence with Quantum Theory, “transition probabilities” for general mixed states. Then some theorems concerning this quantity will be proved. It turns out the possibility to characterize the transition probability by a minimal condition among state functions which depend on two states.

A Compression Algorithm for Probability Transition Matrices

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1998
A novel compression algorithm for probability transition matrices is given. The output from the algorithm is a smaller probability transition matrix with less states. If the probability transition matrix is hard to compress, then the system is probably modeled at a reasonable level of granularity.
