Preroughening Transitions in Surfaces

Physical Review Letters, 1987
We introduce a new type of phase of crystal surface and interfaces. This disordered flat phase appears intermediate between the familiar flat and rough phases in the presence of short-range interactions of a type common in experiments. The surface remains flat on average although it contains a disordered array of steps.

Phase Transitions on Gan Surfaces

MRS Proceedings, 2002
ABSTRACTRecent experimental and theoretical studies highlighted the importance of the growing surface structure on the final morphology of GaN. Actually, optimum morphology is achieved by growth in presence of a Ga bilayer adsorbed on the GaN surface. The threshold fluxes limiting the region of the Ga bilayer adsorption have been measured as a function

SURFACE EFFECTS ON THE PHASE TRANSITIONS

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 1992
The influence of the surface on the phase transitions is discussed. Classical models are reviewed and critically analyzed. Starting with a multilayer model, a new form of the surface energy is proposed. Our model predicts, contrary to previous models, a surface order parameter different from zero in a temperature range above the critical temperature ...

Surface phase transitions

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1995
Within Lipowsky's model we consider the surface phase with a specific shape of the order parameter appearing above the bulk phase transition point at the surface. We apply the results to a description of the surface magnetization whose behavior was experimentally observed as the magnetization in a semi-elliptical form.

Surface phase transitions

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1987
Angle resolved photoemission is a powerful tool to study the surface and bulk electronic structure of solids. In this paper we describe the use of this technique to learn about phase transitions at surfaces at low or high temperatures. The first example that we discuss is surface melting of metals.

Transition on Concave Surfaces

Volume 4: Turbo Expo 2004, 2004
Boundary layer measurements have been made on the concave surfaces of two constant curvature blades using hot wire anemometry. All the current experiments were performed with negligible streamwise pressure gradient. Grids were used to produce a range of freestream turbulence levels between 1% and 4%. The freestream velocity increases with distance from

Surfaces of Transition Metals

Physical Review B, 1973
We study the properties of transition-metal surfaces, with particular emphasis on Ni. Using the renormalized-atom approach, it is argued that the $d$-state excitations are narrowed at the surface and the $d$-hole count is reduced. The magnetic coupling of the surface layer to bulk is investigated in detail.
