Roughening transition of surfaces
Physics Letters A, 1984Abstract We study the roughening of a model crystal surface, by a transfer-matrix method. We find that the transfer operators nearly map onto the anisotropic Heisenberg linear antiferromagnet, and confirm, as a consequence, that the free energy has an essential singularity at T R .

Roughening phase transition in surface growth
Physical Review Letters, 1990We present first systematic numerical simulation results which show a strong indication of phase transitions, in {ital both} 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions, between weak-coupling and strong-coupling regimes in a surface-growth model. A modified ballistic deposition model is used to demonstrate the transitions and the roughness scaling exponent is measured ...

Structured Surfaces and Morphological Wetting Transitions
Interface Science, 2001Recent theoretical and experimental studies have shown that structured surfaces, which contain patterns of lyophilic surface domains, lead to morphological wetting transitions at which the wetting layer changes its shape in a characteristic and typically abrupt manner.

Transition States for Surface-Catalyzed Chemistry
Accounts of Chemical Research, 1999Fluorine substituent effects have been used to probe the nature of the transition states for the several elementary reaction steps occurring on metal surfaces. The reactions described include beta-hydrogen elimination in adsorbed alkoxide and alkyl groups, coupling of alkyl groups, and dehalogenation of alkyl chloride and iodides.
