An inflated closed loop (or membrane) is used to demonstrate a dynamic rigidity transition that occurs when impact energy is added to the loop in static equilibrium at zero temperature. The only relevant parameter in this transition is the ratio of the energy needed to collapse the loop and the impact energy.

Kinematics and Dynamics of Burst Transitions
Journal of Motor Behavior, 2014Subjects (N = 14) were instructed to walk at comfortable walking speed and to start sprinting on an external (visual) stimulus. This is a burst transition. To accelerate maximally, different strategies can be used. The choice for a strategy was hypothesized to be (a) dependent of the body's dynamical status, which is in its turn dependent on the signal

Puzzle of Protein Dynamical Transition
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2011Despite recent extensive efforts, the nature of the dynamics of biological macromolecules still remains unclear. In particular, contradicting models have been proposed for explaining the temperature behavior of the mean square displacement, MSD, and of the system relaxation time, τ.

Dynamics of conformational transitions in polymers
Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Symposia, 1984AbstractA review is presented of research on several aspects of the dynamics of conformational transitions in polymers. Brownian dynamics computer simulations of polymer chains show that transitions occur frequently in a correlated fashion involving cranklike counterrotation of two parallel bonds.

Dynamics of the optical Freedericksz transition
Physical Review A, 1987We investigate theoretically dynamical aspects of the optical Freedericksz transition in nematic liquid crystals. Specifically, we analyze (1) the existence and stability of a sequence of higher-order longitudinal modes past the Freedericksz transition, (2) effects due to transverse correlations of the molecular orientation, and (3) the effects of ...

The origin of the dynamic transition in proteins
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2008Despite extensive efforts in experimental and computational studies, the microscopic understanding of dynamics of biological macromolecules remains a great challenge. It is known that hydrated proteins, DNA and RNA, exhibit a so-called “dynamic transition.” It appears as a sharp rise of their mean-squared atomic displacements ⟨r2⟩ at temperatures above

Dynamics of human postural transitions.
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2002In the present study, the authors examined transitions between postural coordination modes involved in human stance. The analysis was motivated by dynamical theories of pattern formation, in which coordination modes and transitions between modes are emergent, self-organized properties of the dynamics of animal-environment systems.

Dynamic Machine Operation Transitions
2013 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC), 2013Wide angular velocity operation of an electrical machine is demonstrated by partitioning each of the stator coils of a three-phase configuration. An open-winding machine drive circuit is proposed with which dynamic transitions between machine operating modes can be executed.
