Sonography of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts
Seminars in Ultrasound, CT and MRI, 1995Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunting (TIPS) is an effective procedure for relieving portal hypertension. Sonography can usefully assist portal vein puncture. Color and duplex sonography after TIPS demonstrates changes in hepatic vascular hemodynamics, detects complications, and confirms shunt patency.

Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt
Digestive Diseases, 2005The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an interventional treatment resulting in decompression of the portal system by creation of a side-to-side portosystemic anastomosis. Since its introduction 16 years ago, more than 1,000 publications have appeared demonstrating broad acceptance and increasing clinical use.

Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt for Trauma?
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 2000We report a case of successful emergency TIPS placement to control intra-abdominal bleeding after blunt abdominal trauma in a patient with severe cirrhosis and portal hypertension.

The Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt: An Update
American Journal of Roentgenology, 2012The purpose of this article is to review the indications, outcomes, complications, patient selection, and technical aspects of creating a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS).The best available evidence supports the use of TIPS in secondary prevention of variceal bleeding and in refractory ascites, although TIPS is also commonly used ...

Emergency transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts [PDF]
The TIPS procedure can provide for emergent decompression of the portal venous system and cessation of life-threatening hemorrhage from gastroesophageal varices. It is a highly sophisticated procedure that should be done only by very experienced interventional radiologists because of the important complications that can occur and are directly related ...

Development of Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt
Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2015The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) was developed experimentally in canines in the late 1960s. It was one of the early interventional radiologic techniques. Although there was some science, serendipity played a major role in the creation of TIPS. It was a natural process, and here is the story. I was a diagnostic radiologist in the

To quantify portosystemic shunting and hepatic portal perfusion after placement of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS).Technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin (MAA) was injected directly into the portal veins of nine asymptomatic patients 3 months after TIPS placement.

Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS)
Gastroenterology Nursing, 1998A transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a recently developed radiologic technique that is useful in the treatment of complications of portal hypertension, variceal bleeding, and ascites. A TIPS is an accepted interventional procedure indicated for the select group of patients who either have variceal bleeding that does not respond to ...
