PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Translation Estimation from Omnidirectional Images

open access: yes, 2015
We present a translation estimation method from omnidirectional images with missing data. Given omnidirectional images, it is possible to estimate the rotations of each camera using a fundamental matrix.

Comparison of portable ultrasound and arthroscopy for assessing sagittal fibular translation for assessment of syndesmotic instabilityWhat are the new findings?

open access: yesJournal of ISAKOS
Objectives: To evaluate 1) whether portable ultrasonography can evaluate syndesmotic instability in the sagittal plane, and 2) how portable ultrasound measurements compare to arthroscopic evaluation.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Veech Groups and Translation Coverings

open access: yes, 2013
A translation surface is obtained by taking plane polygons and gluing their edges by translations. We ask which subgroups of the Veech group of a primitive translation surface can be realised via a translation covering.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Optical sensor for measurement of an object In-plane translation and rotation by speckle correlation method

open access: yes, 2010
The paper presents design and experimental verification of an optical sensor for non-contact detection and quantitative evaluations of both in-plane translation and rotation of object’s surface by speckle correlation method.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
