A TRANSLOG COST FUNCTION ANALYSIS OF U.S. AGRICULTURE: A DYNAMIC SPECIFICATION
2003This study has used an empirical approach developed by Urga and Walters (2003) to examine the implications of the short-run specification of the standard translog cost specification along with the possible implications of non-stationarity. We have estimated a dynamic translog cost specification complete with dynamic share equations for U.S. agriculture

A Translog Cost Function Analysis of U.S. Agriculture: 1948-1999
2003This study examines the implications of the short-run specification of the standard, static translog cost function along with the possible implications of non-stationarity by estimating a dynamic translog cost specification complete with dynamic share equations for the U.S. using an empirical approach developed by Urga and Walters (2003).

Translog Cost Function: An application for Bangladesh Agriculture
Asian Accounting and Auditing Advancement, 2011This study is concerned with factor substitution in Bangladesh agriculture. The translog cost function is used to study both substitutability and complementarity relationships between inputs. Using homothetic structure, the Allen partial elasticities of substitution (AES) is estimated to examine the nature of factor substitution among the four inputs ...

US Airport Costs and Production Technology A Translog Cost Function Analysis
Journal of Transport Economics and Policy, 2014From a panel of fifty airports over a 13-year period, this research estimates a translog model of airport short-run operating costs. Output is departures and the effective number of 10,000 by 150 feet runways is a quasi-fixed factor of production. The analysis finds that airports operate under increasing returns to runway utilisation, input demand for ...

Airline Code-share Alliances and Costs: Imposing Concavity on Translog Cost Function Estimation
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2003This paper provides an assessment of how airline code-share alliances affect the costs of the airline industry. It makes two contributions to the literature. First, it measures the effects of airline alliances by estimating a translog cost function using a panel dataset of 10 major U.S.-based airlines over 29 quarters. Secondly, it ensures concavity of

Choice of the Empirical Definition of Zero in the Translog Multiproduct Cost Functional Form
2005This study examines the impacts of empirical definition of zero output values on price elasticities, economy of scope, and scale using the Translog cost function. A system of cost and factor share equations with regularity conditions imposed is estimated. Results show that the choice of default values affects policy recommendations.

Interrelated factor demands for manufacturing: A dynamic translog cost function approach
European Economic Review, 1989Abstract In this paper we report the results of estimating a joint model for labour, capital and energy using the transcendental logarithmic cost function of Christensen, Jorgenson and Lau (1973). This allows us to determine both the own price and cross elasticities of substitution between labour, capital and energy.

Estimating an hedonic translog cost function for the home health care industry
Applied Economics, 1998Medicare home health care plays an important role in providing cost effective care for the chronically ill and elderly. Long seen as a cost effective substitute for nursing home care, home care has become even more important with expenditures increasing by 31.4% from 1990 to 1996.

Translog Cost Functions: An Application for Mexican Manufacturing.
2007We use translog cost functions to estimate own-price and substitution elasticities of input demands, economies of scale and average costs in Mexican manufacturing. Data from the Mexican Annual Industrial Survey is used for 1996, 2000 and 2003. We show that a model that allows for nonhomotheticity and nonunitary elasticities of substitution is ...

International Advances in Economic Research, 2000
This paper proposes a measure to assess firm performance which is based in neoclassical production theory and yet can be empirically estimated with widely available financial accounting ratios. A translog cost function is estimated, and fitted per-unit average cost figures are generated based upon the firm's individual characteristics and industry ...
