The application of Graphene as a sample support in Transmission Electron Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Transmission electron microscopy has witnessed rampant development and surging point resolution over the past few years. The improved imaging performance of modern electron microscopes shifts the bottleneck for image contrast and resolution to sample preparation.

Post-acquisition image based compensation for thickness variation in microscopy section series

open access: yes, 2015
Serial section Microscopy is an established method for volumetric anatomy reconstruction. Section series imaged with Electron Microscopy are currently vital for the reconstruction of the synaptic connectivity of entire animal brains such as that of ...

Synergistic Effects of Cerium and Magnesium on Optimizing Electrical Conductivity and Mechanical Properties of AlSi3 Cast Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of Ce and/or Mg on the electrical conductivity (EC) and mechanical properties of AlSi3 cast alloy. It highlights the synergistic effects of Ce and Mg on eutectic Si modification and Mg solute reduction in the Al matrix, resulting in the optimization of EC, strength, and ductility of the alloy.

Enhancing the Age‐Hardening Response of Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion WE43 Alloy through Microstructural Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser powder‐bed fusion (L‐PBF) can produce dense WE43 magnesium alloy parts, but their mechanical properties are limited by a nonhomogeneous microstructure. This study investigates the effects of varying direct aging (T5) and artificial age‐hardening (T6) conditions on microstructure and strength. Optimized T6 treatment significantly improves strength

Complementary LEEM and eV-TEM for imaging and spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Transmission electron microscopy at very low energy is a promising way to avoid damaging delicate biological samples with the incident electrons, a known problem in conventional transmission electron microscopy. For imaging in the 0-30 eV range, we added a second electron source to a low energy electron microscopy (LEEM) setup, enabling imaging in both

A Study on Thermal Expansion and Thermomechanical Behavior of Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The coefficient of thermal expansion of steel–steel composite metal foam (S‐S CMF) is shown to be lower than that of bulk stainless steel while its performance under compression demonstrate excellent mechanical stability and strength at all temperatures with gradualsoftening from 400 to 600 °C.

Scanning transmission electron microscopy* [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, 1974
SUMMARYThe scanning transmission electron microscope is of quite recent origin, and it is only in the last few years that it has been shown that this instrument is capable of giving the same high resolution as the conventional electron microscope. In this article we examine the conditions necessary for the achievement of high resolution and also the ...
