Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Visual-Based Positioning of Aerial Maintenance Platforms on Overhead Transmission Lines

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are an emerging and promising alternative for monitoring of transmission lines in terms of flexibility, complexity, working speed, and cost. One of the main challenges is to enable UAVs to become as autonomous as possible.

The millimeter-wave properties of superconducting microstrip lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We have developed a novel technique for making high quality measurements of the millimeter-wave properties of superconducting thin-film microstrip transmission lines. Our experimental technique currently covers the 75-100 GHz band. The method is based on

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Power‐DETR: end‐to‐end power line defect components detection based on contrastive denoising and hybrid label assignment

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution
Maintenance of power transmission lines is essential for the safe and reliable operation of the power grid. The use of deep learning‐based networks to improve the performance of power line defect detection faces significant challenges, such as small ...

Transmission line design

open access: yesProceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1917
This paper contains a complete mathematical analysis of the forces which determine the location in space of a cable suspended from points of equal elevation, and gives the designer and constructing engineer of a transmission line some useful working formulas based on this analysis.

Long-Range Response to Transmission Line Disturbances in DC Electricity Grids

open access: yes, 2014
We consider a DC electricity grid composed of transmission lines connecting power generators and consumers at its nodes. The DC grid is described by nonlinear equations derived from Kirchhoff's law.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
