Axle Ratios and Transmission Steps
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1929
STATING that improvements can be made in the smoothness, flexibility and economy of motor-cars by the provision of axle ratios and transmission steps that will make high road-speeds possible with lower engine-speeds than at present, and without increasing the size of the engine, the author ...

Refinement of the gear ratios of the vehicle transmission
Vestnik Mashinostroeniya, 2023A method is proposed to refine the transmission ratios of vehicles by matching the load modes of movement with the design parameters of the transmission, providing optimal speed and the ability to overcome road resistance. Overcoming the emerging forces of resistance to movement is considered from the conditions of energy consumption of the vehicle. To

Mechanisms with discontinuous transmission ratios
Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1973Abstract A 6-bar linkage with certain dimensions can provide an instantaneous reversal in the sign of the transmission ratio between input and output. By adding further components, it is possible to construct mechanisms that provide discontinuous transmission ratios without reversal, and without using edge-contacts or deformable members.

On antenna selection with maximum ratio transmission
The Thrity-Seventh Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems & Computers, 2003, 2004In this paper, we investigate the capacity performance of multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) systems with antenna selection. At the transmitter, we assume a single data stream transmission using optimum transmit beamforming, also known as maximum ratio transmission (MRT). The scope of this paper is two-fold: first, to analyze the performance of MRT

A Two-Path Variable-Ratio Transmission With an Extended Range of Ratios
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1977The range of speed ratios available from a simple two-path, variable-ratio transmission is increased by adding a two-speed gear train and a pair of clutches. Two phases of operation minimize the torque demand on the variable ratio elements; transfer between these phases is effected by clutches engaged when unloaded and at a synchronous speed.

Ratio Changing the Continuously Variable Transmission
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
The ratio changing mechanics of the continuously variable transmissions are developed. The lever analogy of gear sets, comparison to step gear transmission mechanics, differential calculus analysis, and the step gear ratio changing equations are used.

Novel infinitely Variable Transmission allowing efficient transmission ratio variations at rest
2015 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2015Recent studies showed that Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) and Infinitely Variable Transmissions (IVT) can considerably improve the locomotion efficiency in legged robot. A CVT is a transmission whose ratio can be continuously varied and an IVT is a transmission whose ratio can be continuously varied from positive to negative values. However,

On the tightness of signal to noise ratio gain bound of maximum ratio transmission
WCC 2000 - ICCT 2000. 2000 International Conference on Communication Technology Proceedings (Cat. No.00EX420), 2002Antenna array diversity is one of the most effective techniques to improve the performance of a wireless communication system in a fading environment. Especially in a mobile system, it is more practical to employ an antenna array at the base station rather than at the mobile units.

Elucidating mouse transmission ratio distortion
Nature Genetics, 2005A proportion of wild mice carry a variant region of chromosome 17 that results in severe transmission ratio distortion in males. The genetic basis of this distortion has long been enigmatic, but a recent study begins to disentangle it.
