Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

High Resolution Transmission Spectroscopy as a Diagnostic for Jovian Exoplanet Atmospheres: Constraints from Theoretical Models

open access: yes, 2014
We present high resolution transmission spectra of giant planet atmospheres from a coupled 3-D atmospheric dynamics and transmission spectrum model that includes Doppler shifts which arise from winds and planetary motion. We model jovian planets covering

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Depolarization increases cellular light transmission

open access: yes, 2008
Application of optical methods to human brain tissue in vivo, e.g., measuring oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin concentration changes with near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), requires the a priori assumption that background optical properties remain ...

The Detection-versus-retrieval Challenge: Titan as an Exoplanet

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Cassini observations of Titan’s atmosphere are exemplary benchmarks for exoplanet atmospheric studies owing to their precision, their spectral coverage, and our independent knowledge of Titan.

Toward a multidimensional analysis of transmission spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2022
New-generation spectrographs dedicated to the study of exoplanetary atmospheres require a high accuracy in the atmospheric models to better interpret the input spectra. Thanks to space missions such as James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), ARIEL, and Twinkle, the observed spectra will indeed cover a large wavelength range from visible to mid-infrared with

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.
