Mean-field and Monte Carlo analysis of multi-species agent dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
We propose a mean-field (MF) approximation as a recurrence relation governing the dynamics of m species of particles on a square lattice. We simultaneously perform Monte Carlo (MC) simulations under identical initial conditions to emulate the intricate ...

Radial intensity gradients of galactic cosmic rays in the heliosphere at solar maximum: 1D no-shock simulation [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2009
We study the spatial distribution of galactic cosmic rays in the heliosphere at solar maximum of cycles 21, 22 and 23, using a one-dimensional no-shock model of the cosmic ray transport equation.

Sobolev differentiable stochastic flows for SDEs with singular coefficients: Applications to the transport equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we establish the existence of a stochastic flow of Sobolev diffeomorphisms R d ∋ x 7−→ φ s,t (x) ∈ R d , s, t ∈ R, for a stochastic differential equation (SDE) of the form dXt = b(t, Xt) dt + dBt, s, t ∈ R, Xs = x ∈ R d .

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Taylor’s hypothesis in turbulent channel flow considered using a transport equation analysis

open access: yes, 2014
Direct numerical simulations of turbulent channel flow at Re-tau = 205 and 932 have been carried out to examine Taylor's "frozen turbulence" hypothesis. The terms in Taylor's hypothesis appear in the transport equation for instantaneous momentum (Navier ...

Global Lipschitz stability in determining coefficients of the radiative transport equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, for the radiative transport equation, we study inverse problems of determining a time-independent scattering coefficient or total attenuation by boundary data on the complementary sub-boundary after making a one time input of a pair of a ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Diffusion synthetic acceleration with the fine mesh rebalance of the subcell balance method with tetrahedral meshes for SN transport calculations

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2020
A diffusion synthetic acceleration (DSA) technique for the SN transport equation discretized with the linear discontinuous expansion method with subcell balance (LDEM-SCB) on unstructured tetrahedral meshes is presented.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Exact and efficient solution of the radiative transport equation for the semi-infinite medium

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2013
An accurate and efficient solution of the radiative transport equation is proposed for modeling the propagation of photons in the three-dimensional anisotropically scattering half-space medium.
