Burden of disease from road traffic and railway noise – a quantification of healthy life years lost in Sweden

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2017
OBJECTIVES: National quantifications of the health burden related to traffic noise are still rare. In this study, we use disability-adjusted life-years (DALY) measure to assess the burden of disease from road traffic and railway noise in Sweden. METHODS:

Transportation-cost inequalities for diffusions driven by Gaussian processes

open access: yes, 2016
We prove transportation-cost inequalities for the law of SDE solutions driven by general Gaussian processes. Examples include the fractional Brownian motion, but also more general processes like bifractional Brownian motion.

Virtual Integration Platforms (VIP) –A Concept for Integrated and Interdisciplinary Air Transportation Research and Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The paper descibes a new methodology for a holistic development of air transportation concepts. The Virtual Integration Plattform (VIP) concept is based on an IT tool chain as well as human collaborative methods to deal with complex systems.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Assessment of Noise from Transportation Systems in Ilorin, Nigeria

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Technological Development, 2019
Noise from transportation systems is unavoidable in urban areas and can be harmful to human health. The noise generated by selected transportations systems in Ilorin, an urban area in central Nigeria, was studied by direct measurements and the use of ...

Relationship Analysis between Vegetation and Traffic Noise Pollution: A Case Study Lahore, Pakistan

open access: yesInternational Journal of Economic and Environment Geology, 2021
The problem of exposure to traffic noise pollution is rapidly increasing day by day and is closely associated with the rapid industrialization and urbanization process taking place over the glob (Margaritis and Kang, 2016). Nowadays, more than 54% of the

COVID-19 societal response captured by seismic noise in China and Italy

open access: yes, 2020
Seismic noise with frequencies above 1 Hz is often called cultural noise and is generally correlated quite well with human activities. Recently, cities in mainland China and Italy imposed lockdown restrictions in response to COVID-19, which gave us an ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Adverse impact of nocturnal transportation noise on glucose regulation in healthy young adults: Effect of different noise scenarios

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2018
Background: Epidemiological evidence indicates an association between transportation noise exposure and a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Sleep disturbances are thought to be one of the mechanisms as it is well established that a few nights of
