Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Evaluation of Hardness, Impact, and Transverse Strength Tests of Heat-Cured Acrylic Denture Base Material Following the Addition of Watercress, Tea Tree, and Clove Oils: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesDental Hypotheses
Introduction: This study evaluated the hardness, impact, and transverse strength of heat-cured acrylic resin modified with natural oils, including watercress, tea tree, and clove oils, at different concentrations.

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Improved Shear Strength Equation for Concrete Wide Beams

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
An improved shear strength equation is proposed that considers transverse reinforcement spacing and support conditions for concrete wide beams. Eighteen specimens were fabricated to examine the influence of transverse reinforcement spacing, the number of

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Three-dimensional strength criterion for transverse isotropic geomaterials

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2018
The strength characteristic of the transverse isotropic soil include two aspects. On one hand, the strength curves are not symmetric around the three principal stress axes on deviatoric plane.

Analysis of an alternative topology for steel-concrete-steel sandwich beams incorporating inclined shear connectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This thesis presents a new concept in steel-concrete-steel sandwich construction in which a bi-directional corrugated-strip core is proposed as an alternative inclined shear connector.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.
