Transversely isotropic elasticity tensors
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1987Abstract A representation formula for the elasticity tensor of a linearly elastic, transversely isotropic material is obtained, depending on eight constants. If, besides rotations about the axis of symmetry, reflections with respect to planes through that axis are also regarded as admissible symmetry transformations for the material ...

Elastically-homogeneous lattice modelling of transversely isotropic rocks
Computers and geotechnics, 2018In this paper, the Rigid Body Spring Network method is further developed to perform analyses of transversely isotropic rocks. Two contributions are proposed: (1) an extension of the fictitious stress approach and (2) the combined application of the ...

Migration in Transversely Isotropic Media by Cascading Isotropic Operators
60th EAGE Conference and Exhibition, 1998Isotropic migration algorithms for seismic data from anisotropic media produce onder certain conditions large position errors for steep reflectors.

Articular cartilage is a multi-phasic, composite, fibre-reinforced material. Therefore, its mechanical properties are determined by the tissue microstructure. The presence of cells (chondrocytes) and collagen fibres within the proteoglycan matrix influences, at a local and a global level, the material symmetries.

Isotropic constituent layers equivalent to a transversely isotropic medium
55th EAEG Meeting, 1993A large fraction of the material occupying sedimentary basins consists of shale-like layered media. The elastic behavior of such shale formations is often found to be a type of transverse isotropy, where a) the horizontal SH velocity is greater than the vertical shear velocity, b) the horizontal P wave velocity is greater than the vertical P wave ...

THE UNITED POINT FORCE SOLUTION FOR BOTH ISOTROPIC AND TRANSVERSELY ISOTROPIC MEDIA
Communications in Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1997Summary: This paper treats a united-form solution for a point force applied at the interior of an infinite transversely isotropic solid. Several heuristic functions are adopted to obtain the expressions of the solution based on the general solution. To exclude some indeterminate attributes, the expressions are rewritten.

Statics of Transversely Isotropic Beams
AIAA Journal, 1972is increased. As expected, due to slip, Aroesty's result shows a slight decrease in pressure from the strong interaction value. In Fig. 4, skin-friction coefficient is plotted against the rarefaction parameter M^ (c/Rex). It is seen again that slip reduces the skin friction. Also, increase in semiwedge angle increases skin friction.

On Transversely Isotropic Eddy Viscosity
Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1994Abstract The conventional parameterization of diffusion in geophysical fluid dynamics, which replaces v∇2u in the Navier-Stokes equations by [AH(δx2 + δy2) + AVδz2]u, where AH and AV are eddy viscosities, rests on the hypothesis that the Reynolds-stress tensor τij is a symmetric, transversely isotropic function of the mean velocity-gradient tensor ...
