Biofilm Formation with Optical Trapping

Biophotonics Congress: Optics in the Life Sciences 2023 (OMA, NTM, BODA, OMP, BRAIN), 2023
Biofilm is created by bacterial colonies in response to a hostile environment. We study the aggregation and clustering of B. Subtilis bacteria in MSgg media and how optical trapping affects biofilm development.

Dysregulated neutrophil extracellular traps formation in sepsis

Immunology, 2023
AbstractThe migration and antimicrobial functions of neutrophils seem to be impaired during sepsis and contribute to the dysregulation of immune responses and disease pathogenesis. However, the role of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) remains to be clarified.

Influencing colloidal formation with optical traps

Soft Matter, 2017
We present a novel concept where optical traps are used to influence an ongoing polymerization process of emulsion droplets. By directed coalescence and partial fusion of intermediate nucleation sites, spherical and elongated colloids with specific dimensions are formed.

Trap formation by conidia of nematode-trapping Monacrosporium spp.

Mycological Research, 1995
Several Monacrosporium spp. formed adhesive branches, knobs and nets on their conidia. The traps adhered to the nematodes passing through them. Subsequent digestion of the nematode by adhesive branches formed on conidia of M. cionopagum was observed.

Antihydrogen formation in combined traps

Hyperfine Interactions, 1996
The antihydrogen formation via two-body recombination in a cylindrical trap is studied and a very crude estimation of the formation rate is presented. The possibility of using the thermal wave model to describe the particle distribution function in a trap has been checked in some simple cases.

Mechanical Ventilation Induces Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation

Anesthesiology, 2015
AbstractAbstract By creating lung injury in mice using intratracheal lipopolysaccharide and mechanical ventilation, the authors documented that neutrophil extracellular traps were formed when lipopolysaccharide was present during high tidal ventilation and could be treated with deoxyribonuclease I.
