Early outcomes of Pyrocardan® implants for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis
The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the early outcomes of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis treatment using Pyrocardan® implants in patients with early Eaton (stage I and II) osteoarthritis. We analyzed the results of 27 patients, with a median age of 59 years (range, 34-78 years) and a mean follow-up of 24 months (range, 12-41).

Surgery for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis
Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation, 2016Trapeziometacarpal (TMC) osteoarthritis is a common, disabling condition that mostly affects women. The demand for surgical treatment is growing and the patients are becoming younger, adding to the challenge. Surgery can only be proposed after failure of well-conducted conservative treatment and requires a complete X-ray assessment. In the early stages,

Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis and arthritis of the wrist
Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation, 2021Although the simultaneous occurrence of arthritis of the wrist and the base of the thumb is rare, it is nonetheless imperative to carry out a preoperative clinical and radiological assessment of the wrist when managing trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis. The presence of pre-arthritic lesions or established wrist arthritis, even if treated, must be taken

Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis: do not forget other disorders
Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2023A retrospective study of patients with symptomatic trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis was conducted to assess the prevalence of other disorders of the hand. Another disorder of the hand was associated in 49% of cases. A systematic clinical examination of the whole hand must be performed preoperatively.

Interposition Arthroplasty of the Trapeziometacarpal Joint for Osteoarthritis
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1987Resection arthroplasty of the trapezium with either Gelfoam (Upjohn Co., Kalamazoo, Michigan) or tendon interposition was performed in 28 thumbs. Postoperatively, all thumbs were stable and all patients noted diminished pain and improvement in strength.

Trapeziometacarpal Osteoarthritis Anatomy, Biomechanics, Epidemiology, And Diagnosis
Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja, 2022Arthritis is the most common joint disease. It impairs patients quality of life on account of the associated chronic pain and loss of joint function. The thumb is the most important digit of the hand and trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (carpometacarpal arthritis / CMC-1 arthritis) may significantly compromise functions of the entire hand.

Osteoarthritis of the thumb trapeziometacarpal joint
Current Orthopaedics, 2007Summary Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis is a very common condition, with radiological changes prevalent in 30% of post-menopausal women but a large number being asymptomatic. A lack of bony constraints and laxity of the supporting ligaments, particularly the “beak” ligament is consistently implicated in disease progression.
