Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Dual trapped-ion quantum simulators: an alternative route towards exotic quantum magnets
We present a route towards the quantum simulation of exotic quantum magnetism in ion traps by exploiting dual relations between different spin models. Our strategy allows one to start from Hamiltonians that can be realized with current technology, while ...

Cavity QED with cold trapped ions [PDF]
We analyze the quantum motion of a cold, trapped two-level ion interacting with a quantized light field in a single-mode cavity. We shaw chat in the nonclassical Lamb-Dicke limit the time evolution of the vibrational mode representing the quantized ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Immobilization of heavy metals in cementitious matrices
Cementitious materials (CMs) have been prepared from treated clay powder (TCP) and excess lime. For comparison, ordinary Portland cement (OPC) has also been used to see entrapment capacity of the CMs for target metal ions.

SAMPEX Measurements of Heavy Ions Trapped in the Magnetosphere [PDF]
New observations of >15 MeV/nuc trapped heavy ions with Z 2 2 have been made by the SAMPEX spacecraft in low polar orbit. The composition of these ions, which are located primarily around L = 2, is dominated by He, N, O, and Ne. The N, O, and Ne ions

Rotation sensing with trapped ions [PDF]
© 2017 IOP Publishing Ltd. We present a protocol for rotation measurement via matter-wave Sagnac interferometry using trapped ions. The ion trap based interferometer encloses a large area in a compact apparatus through repeated round-trips in a Sagnac ...

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...
