Controlling the spontaneous emission and entanglement of quantum scatterers via modulated reflection of their emitted photons

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
We propose an experimental setup for manipulating the spontaneous emission (SE) of quantum scatterers, based on a spatial light modulator. We discuss this idea in the case of trapped barium ions as quantum emitters.

Driven geometric phase gates with trapped ions

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
We describe a hybrid laser–microwave scheme to implement two-qubit geometric phase gates in crystals of trapped ions. The proposed gates can attain errors below the fault-tolerance threshold in the presence of thermal, dephasing, laser-phase and ...

Ultra-fast two-qubit ion gate using sequences of resonant pulses

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
We propose a new protocol to implement ultra-fast two-qubit phase gates with trapped ions using spin-dependent kicks induced by resonant transitions. By only optimizing the allocation of the arrival times in a pulse train sequence the gate is implemented

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Feasibility of a quantum memory for continuous variables based on trapped ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We propose to use a large cloud of cold trapped ions as a medium for quantum optics and quantum information experiments. Contrary to most recent realizations of qubit manipulation based on a small number of trapped and cooled ions, we study the case of ...

Quantum communication between trapped ions through a dissipative environment

open access: yes, 2008
We study two trapped ions coupled to the axial phonon modes of a one-dimensional Coulomb crystal. This system is formally equivalent to the "two spin-boson" model. We propose a scheme to dynamically generate a maximally entangled state of two ions within

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Energy transport in trapped ion chains

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
We experimentally study energy transport in chains of trapped ions. We use a pulsed excitation scheme to rapidly add energy to the local motional mode of one of the ions in the chain.

The Mechanism of Trapped Ions Eroding the Electrochromic Performances of WO3 Thin Films

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2018
The electrochromic WO3 devices normally suffer from the degradation of long-term performances since the accumulation of trapped ions in the host structure.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
