Tidal heating and the habitability of the TRAPPIST-1 exoplanets [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2019
Context. New estimates of the masses and radii of the seven planets orbiting the ultracool M-dwarf TRAPPIST-1 star permit improved modelling of their compositions, heating by tidal dissipation, and removal of tidal heat by solid-state convection. Aims. Here we compute the heat flux due to insolation and tidal heating for the inner four planets. Methods.

Effects of Transient Stellar Emissions on Planetary Climates of Tidally Locked Exo-Earths [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomical Journal
Space weather events in exoplanetary environments sourced from transient host star emissions, including stellar flares, coronal mass ejections, and stellar proton events, can substantially influence a planet's habitability and atmospheric evolution ...

On the Local Formation of the TRAPPIST-1 Exoplanets

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Abstract The discovery of seven approximately Earth-mass planets orbiting the 0.09 M ⊙ M dwarf TRAPPIST-1 captivated the public and sparked a proliferation of investigations into the system’s origins. Among other properties, the resonant architecture of the planets has been interpreted to imply that orbital migration ...

Molecular Hydrogen Controls the Temperatures of Flares on TRAPPIST-1 [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal Letters
Early JWST observations of TRAPPIST-1 have revealed an unexpected puzzle: energetic white-light flares (E > 1030 erg) reach temperatures of only ∼3500–4000 K, nearly 3 times cooler than typical solar flares, which peak around 9000–10,000 K.

Lifecycle land decumulation strategies in a seventeenth‐century rural community

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 78, Issue 4, Page 1088-1117, November 2025.
Abstract Economic historians have tried to better understand how and why land was redistributed in rural communities, although our empirical insights have been limited by a lack of serial evidence for land distribution within the same locality across a long period.

Interior Characterization in Multiplanetary Systems: TRAPPIST-1 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2018
Abstract Interior characterization traditionally relies on individual planetary properties, ignoring correlations between different planets of the same system. For multiplanetary systems, planetary data are generally correlated. This is because the differential masses and radii are better constrained than absolute planetary masses and ...

TOI-2015 b: a sub-Neptune in strong gravitational interaction with an outer non-transiting planet [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
TOI-2015 is a known exoplanetary system around an M4 dwarf star, consisting of a transiting sub-Neptune planet in a 3.35-day orbital period, TOI-2015,b, accompanied by a non-transiting companion, TOI-2015,c.

Electrical Resistivity of Liquid Fe‐16S‐2Si up to 13 GPa With Implications for the Adiabatic Heat Flux Through the Core of Exoplanet TRAPPIST‐1h

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Thermal convective processes in the liquid cores of terrestrial planetary bodies with the capacity to generate magnetic dynamos may be better characterized by thermal conductivity estimates of core conditions. The composition of the core of asteroid 4 Vesta as determined by geochemical studies of HED meteorites is used as an analog for the ...

Ionic emission from and activity evolution in comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE): Insights from long-slit spectroscopy and photometry [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The long-period comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) was the brightest comet in the northern hemisphere since C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp). These comets offer a unique opportunity to study their composition and the spatial variation in the different emission in detail. We

Signature of Attention: Historical Ambiguities and Elisions in Contemporary Psychological Framings of Attending

open access: yesEducational Theory, Volume 75, Issue 5, Page 936-961, October 2025.
Abstract In contemporary contexts of digitalization, proliferating media, and generative AI, various “life hacks” are regularly recommended to disconnect and resist distraction, ranging from meditation to getting back to nature to unplugging. This paper traces contemporary concerns over “the attention crisis” into a longer signature — the frequently ...
