Abstract Objective Future treatments for eating disorders (ED) need to be enhanced by targeting maintaining mechanisms. Literature suggests self‐criticism and self‐critical perfectionism act as key mechanisms exacerbating ED, and self‐compassion protects against self‐criticism.
