CSF Tau Is a Biomarker of Hippocampal Injury in Cryptogenic New‐Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus
ABSTRACT Objective Cryptogenic new‐onset refractory status epilepticus (cNORSE) is a devastating condition characterized by the de novo onset of status epilepticus with unclear etiology. The identification of relevant early biomarkers in cNORSE is important to elucidate pathophysiology, aid clinical decision‐making, and prognosticate outcomes in cNORSE.

Lack of appropriate controls leads to mistaking absence seizures for post-traumatic epilepsy [PDF]
Here we provide a thorough discussion of a rebuttal by D'Ambrosio et al to a study conducted by Rodgers et al. (Rodgers KM, Dudek FE, Barth DS (2015) Progressive, Seizure-Like, Spike- Wave Discharges Are Common in Both Injured and Uninjured Sprague-Dawley Rats: Implications for the Fluid Percussion Injury Model of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy.

ABSTRACT Objective Increasing evidence shows that patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) can achieve better‐than‐expected outcomes with aggressive therapy. However, real‐world long‐term data, patient‐centered outcomes, and societal measures after maximal ICH treatment are lacking.

Modeling ultrasound propagation in the moving brain: applications to shear shock waves and traumatic brain injury [PDF]
Traumatic brain injury studies on the living human brain are experimentally infeasible. We present a simulation approach that models ultrasound propagation in the human brain while it is moving due to the complex shear shock wave deformation from a traumatic impact. Finite difference simulations can model ultrasound propagation in complex media such as

Trauma and Trichotillomania: A Tenuous Relationship [PDF]
Some have argued that hair pulling in trichotillomania (TTM) is triggered by traumatic events, but reliable evidence linking trauma to TTM is limited.

A 14‐Year Study of Serum Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein and Total Tau in Premanifest Huntington's
ABSTRACT There is a pressing need for blood biomarkers that can identify Huntington's disease (HD) gene carriers' proximity to manifest disease. We previously examined serial serum neurofilament light (NfL) concentrations in 21 premanifest HD gene carriers and 14 controls over 14 years, finding that NfL demonstrates high prognostic value and distinct ...

Prevention of Traumatic Brain Injury with Liquid Shock Absorption [PDF]
The discovery that repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) can result in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in high risk contact sports has led to increased scrutiny of head protective gear. In this work, we asked if it was physically possible to prevent mTBI in American football with helmets alone.
