Research on safety and compliance of imported microbial inoculants using high-throughput sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
Microbial inoculants are widely used in wastewater treatment, soil remediation, and biological control. Safety and compliance for active constituents are considered to be the most important measures of imported microbial inoculants.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Modeling travel mode choice under social influence for the brazilian context

open access: yesTransportes, 2020
This study aims to define a behavioral model to verify whether there is social influence on the travel mode choice made in the Brazilian context. To achieve this goal, a survey was carried out at the Darcy Ribeiro campus of the University of Brasilia ...

Traveling fronts for the generalized Fisher-KPP equation with nonlocal diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The aim of this paper is to study the generalized Fisher-KPP equation with nonlocal diffusion. In specific we prove the existence of a critical speed so that traveling front type solutions exist up to this critical speed and non-existence of traveling fronts below this critical value.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

The Pseudoscience of Time Travel [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Because closed timelike curves are consistent with general relativity, many have asserted that time travel into the past is physically possible if not technologically infeasible. However, the possibility of time travel into the past rests on the unstated and false assumption that zero change to the past implies zero change to the present.
