Halphen distribution system, toolbox for modeling travel time variability: Some insights from mesoscopic simulation

open access: yes, 2015
This paper introduces the Halphen system as a toolbox for modeling travel time variability. We present the three distributions of the Halphen family and the Moment-Ratio Diagram (MRD), a graphical tool for selecting the best distribution given a specific

Comparing Transport Corridors Based on Total Economic Cost

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2023
This paper compares the performance of three competing corridors serving landlocked SADC countries (Beira, Dar es Salaam, and Durban) based on total economic cost from the perspective of transporters, retailers, and manufacturers.

An Investigation of Measurement for Travel Time Variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Congestion has grown over the past two decades making the travel time highly unreliable. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), US Department of Transportation (USDOT) indicated travel time as an important index to measure congestion. Frequent but stochastic, irregular delays increase the challenge for people to plan their journey – e.g.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Searching Optimum Route With Variable Travel Time

open access: yesIEEE Access
In the near future, in a society where connected and autonomous vehicles (connected automated vehicles) enable the transmission and sharing of traffic information, the demand for navigation systems is expected to increase; based on this background, this study proposes a shortest route search method using a time-expansion network.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Explaining the Mean and Variability of Extra Travel Time in Traffic with Interacting Fast and Slow Vehicles

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In this work, the authors developed procedures to explain mean extra travel time (T) and extra travel time variability (V). This was carried out for situations (through simulations) where the fast vehicles’ travel time, whose speed tendency (sp1) is the ...
