A comparison of the GOV survey trawl with a commercial whitefish trawl

Fisheries Research, 2012
Comparative trials were carried out to evaluate the performance of the GOV (Grande Ouverture Verticale) survey trawl in relation to a commercial whitefish trawl. The gears were rigged in a twin trawl configuration and a comparison of catch rates suggest that, overall, the differences in performance between the two gears are not great, and vary ...

ICES Survey Protocols – Offshore beam trawl surveys, coordinated by Working group on Beam Trawl Surveys (WGBEAM)

The ICES survey protocol for offshore beam trawl surveys describes the current methodologies, stratification, and sample processing used in the offshore beam trawl surveys that provide fisheries-independent information to the fish stock assessments for a variety of flatfish species, as well as information for indices under the Marine Strategy Framework

Improving benthic monitoring by combining trawl and grab surveys

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2011
Environmental monitoring is performed on seafloor communities since these organisms are relatively stationary and integrate the environmental conditions over many years. Standard practices involve sampling by grab. Epifaunal taxa, often missed by grab sampling, are likely to have different ecological functions.

The Database of Trawl Surveys

This document focusses on the data flow into the ICES data management systems for surveys at sea, primarily those with a focus on fish species caught using bottom trawling nets. Trawlsurvey data hosted at ICES are collected by research institutions in ICES member countries, and other European countries outside the ICES area.
