Lacustrine forms of Triglopsis from North American and European lakes are at different stages of evolution, making them a suitable model for testing hypotheses about evolutionary patterns and rates. An integrative analysis of morphological, genetic, and biological adaptations occurring in lacustrine forms of the genus Triglopsis was carried out.

Environmental harm to deep-sea coral reefs on seamounts is widely attributed to bottom trawl fishing. Yet, accurate diagnoses of impacts truly caused by trawling are surprisingly rare.

ABSTRACT This study investigated shape variations and morphological integration between the components of crusher and cutter claws in two species of swimming crabs, Callinectes danae and Callinectes ornatus. The propodi and dactyli of the claws were analysed in males and females of both species, using geometric morphometric techniques to identify ...

Towards Non-Invasive Methods to Assess Population Structure and Biomass in Vulnerable Sea Pen Fields
Colonies of the endangered red sea pen Pennatula rubra (Cnidaria: Pennatulacea) sampled by trawling in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea were analyzed.

Comparative review of entanglement risk assessments for cetacean conservation and management
Abstract Cetacean entanglement in fishing gear remains a major global threat that exposes persistent gaps in how fisheries management frameworks manage risk to nontarget species. Ecological risk assessment (ERA) offers a structured way to link exposure and consequences to an explicit statement of risk, but entanglement risk assessments vary widely in ...

Tracking the impact of bottom trawling on benthic habitat status
Abstract Bottom trawling is the most widespread physical disturbance to marine benthic habitats, yet broadscale assessments of its impact remain limited. We developed a quantitative framework to evaluate trawling effects on benthic habitats at broad spatial scales based on the sentinels of seabed (SoS) indicator.

Abstract The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species is a critical measure of global aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity status. It is also the basis for the Red List Index, which tracks extinction risk over time.

Fishing pressure is often expressed in terms of a vessels physical attributes, like tonnage and engine power, while a common definition of fishing capacity identifies vessel size as a convenient proxy for the size of the gear used.

The Effects of Nutrient Additions on Kokanee in Dworshak Reservoir, Idaho
ABSTRACT We investigated the effects of whole reservoir nitrogen (N) addition on kokanee growth in Dworshak Reservoir, Idaho. We hypothesized that N addition would improve the growth of kokanee (Oncorhynchus nerka) at a given level of abundance by increasing the availability of Daphnia, an important food source.
