Dissecting the peripheral stalk of the mitochondrial ATP synthase of chlorophycean algae. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
peer reviewedThe algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Polytomella sp., a green and a colorless member of the chlorophycean lineage respectively, exhibit a highly-stable dimeric mitochondrial F1Fo-ATP synthase (complex V), with a molecular mass of 1600kDa.

Chloroplast phylogenomic analysis resolves deep-level relationships within the green algal class Trebouxiophyceae [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2014
The green algae represent one of the most successful groups of photosynthetic eukaryotes, but compared to their land plant relatives, surprisingly little is known about their evolutionary history. This is in great part due to the difficulty of recognizing species diversity behind morphologically similar organisms. The Trebouxiophyceae is a species-rich

Application of Parachlorella kessleri for treatment of poultry processing wastewater: effect of temperature on nutrient removal rate and protein production

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 100, Issue 10, Page 2136-2145, October 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Wastewater produced from the thermal processing of poultry meat contains high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. Thus, tertiary treatment is required to ensure that the wastewater meets Brazilian environmental regulations. Microalgae are capable of removing nutrients from wastewater and simultaneously synthesizing high‐value ...

Responses of the Antarctic microalga Koliella antarctica (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta) to cadmium contamination

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 2009
Ultrastructural and physiological effects of exposure to 1 ppm and 5 ppm of cadmium (Cd) on cultured cells of Koliella antarctica, a green microalga from Antarctica, were investigated. The amount of Cd in the alga rose with the increase of the metal concentration in the growth medium and most Cd remained outside the cells, bound to the components of ...

The Desert in Bottles: The Culturable Microbiome of the Atacama Desert's Grit Crust

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
The grit crust represents a unique biocrust type of the coastal Atacama Desert. Cyanobacteria, green algae and free‐living fungi were isolated along a fog gradient. Phylogenetic relationships indicated novel taxa and framed an indigenous microbiome. Microclimate and soil data support functional groups related to sites.

Phylogenetic analysis identifies the invertebrate pathogen Helicosporidium sp. as a green alga (Chlorophyta) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Historically, the invertebrate pathogens of the genus Helicosporidium were considered to be either protozoa or fungi, but the taxonomic position of this group has not been considered since 1931. Recently, a Helicosporidium sp., isolated from the blackfly
