GENOMIC SELECTION IN TREE BREEDING

open access: diamondСибирский лесной журнал, 2020
The literature review concerning genomic selection in forest tree breeding is given. Genomic selection is based on relationships between phenotypic traits and genetic markers (single nucleotide polymorphism, SNP). Using genomic selection it is possible to get genomic estimated breeding value of plus tree without long tree progeny testing in field and ...

Application of Genomic Technologies to the Breeding of Trees [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2016
The recent introduction of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies represents a major revolution in providing new tools for identifying the genes and/or genomic intervals controlling important traits for selection in breeding programs. In perennial fruit trees with long generation times and large sizes of adult plants, the impact of these ...

Live Branches on Pine Stumps Deter Pales Weevil Breeding in Michigan (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Eastern white pine and Scotch pine stumps with living branches were unattractive to pales weevil for breeding. When feasible, leaving a few lower branches on Christmas tree stumps during harvest should prevent weevil ...

Genome-wide search and structural and functional analyses for late embryogenesis-abundant (LEA) gene family in poplar

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2021
Background The Late Embryogenesis-Abundant (LEA) gene families, which play significant roles in regulation of tolerance to abiotic stresses, widely exist in higher plants. Poplar is a tree species that has important ecological and economic values.

Tree-hole breeding mosquitoes in Israel [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vector Ecology, 2012
A survey was conducted to evaluate the number of tree-hole breeding mosquito species and their distribution in the six principal woodland types in Israel. Out of approximately 3,000 mature trees examined, only 38 contained holes that retained water for extended periods of time, and breeding mosquitoes were observed in 27 of them.

An Investigation on the Larval Habitat of Five Species of Tree-Hole Breeding Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A two-year study on the larval habitat of five species of tree-hole breeding mosquitoes was conducted in the vicinity of Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio. Ninety-eight tree holes containing mosquito larvae were studied.
